A planned resort community on Banderas Bay — renamed Nuevo Nayarit in 2022, though the older name is still what most people use.
Built from the 1980s onward on the Nayarit side of the Río Ameca, it was designed as a resort community from the start — a marina, golf courses including El Tigre, and hotel-branded residential towers around Paseo de los Cocoteros, its main avenue. The 2022 renaming to Nuevo Nayarit was a municipal decision to separate the area's identity from Puerto Vallarta's (Jalisco's); it hasn't fully taken in everyday use, so both names still appear side by side.
Where Bucerías is a town a resort economy grew into, this is the reverse: a resort built first, on land with no earlier town beneath it.
